Bridge program

At GLHI, all accepted students start with a bridge program in which the focus is on preparation for the first year program in Hospitality Practice and Cookery Skills. Because we are an approved CTH center with international accreditation and therefore comply with international standards and quality, it is important to lay a good foundation before the start of the program.

We train students to get a better level of English required to take and understand the CTH program and we will focus on ICT skills so that we ensure that the students have all the skills needed to work with various computer programs for doing their homework, assignments, presentations etc.

Hospitality Practice and Cookery Skills

Our program in Hospitality Practice and Cooking Skills (HPCS) is internationally accredited by CTH. The program is on an international level, which means that certificates you receive after you have completed the training are internationally valid. The program is designed to meet the global professional requirements of companies and hospitality institutions (hotels, restaurants and all related organizations) that are equal in standards to the best in the world. Students are willing to gain the necessary expertise that employers are looking for.

Besides the CTH modules, we have also added a number of important modules that are important when it comes to personal development and growth.

Units:

Mental health and personal development

At GLHI we want to empower young women and men, by showing them that they can shape their own lives, as part of the community, through so-called changing their mindset and through weekly group therapy by investing in improving their mental health and personal growth and development.

At the beginning of the program the students do a 3-day awareness workshop focused on their mental health. After this workshop, there are weekly group therapy sessions with a local psychologist, where different life themes are discussed and there is time for questions and advice. The aim of these sessions is to help and guide the students with their daily life challenges. The idea that the students can change their own lives by taking action and coming out to achieve the goals they have set for themselves. In sessions, students learn to use their creativity by thinking out of the box and coming up with solutions to problems and challenges they face. They learn to use their intuition and be proactive. This will help them in their personal growth, by improving their mental wellbeing they will be able to perform better.

Job coaching and career guidance

At GLHI we find it important that our students find suitable employment. This is why the students are taught how to find a job, as part of the program. They practice this when they apply for their internships and during the job coaching lessons where we also focus on career guidance. They also receive job application training, which can be applied immediately before the internship towards the end of the program.

In addition, all our students get access to the CTH Members website, an online environment, packed with study assistance and industry information, including:

Internship

The program includes 3 months of internship. GLHI partners with several hotels and restaurants in Rwanda to improve student’s practical skills and to gain experience in the field. During the internships, we work closely with the respective hotel/restaurant to ensure that our students receive the right guidance and training.
